Helgafell – Town mountain of Hafnarfjörður

• Level of difficulty: Very easy.
• Total distance: Approximately 2-3 kilometers.
• Height difference: Approximately 200-300 meters.
• Suitable for age 4-65 years with no serious health problems.
• Departure: Tuesdays 09:30am and Saturdays 09:30am. Other departures by request!

If you have ever dreamed of climbing a mountain this is your chance. The sacred Mount Helgafell is an everyday hiking route of many individuals and families in Iceland. We leave the car at the water spring of Hafnarfjörður town, take water into our bottles and walk for 15-30 minutes over the lava to the mountain. We take it easy on our way up with good breaks in between to listen to information and stories about the mountain and the landscapes we see. On top of Helgafell we take good time to enjoy the view and write our names in the guest book before we head down again.

Take a camera with you for the beautiful view over town Hafnarfjörður, out over Reykjanes peninsula, to Reykjavík and surroundings!
